What is goalie skate profiling?
Goalie skate profiling involves reshaping the skate blade to improve performance.
SkateWorks uses our own proprietary ICON skate profiling process. Nowhere else can you have the precision, accuracy and consistency the ICON Skate profiling process delivers. The ICON skate profiling process is the most detailed profiling process available today because Perfection Makes a Difference!
The correct profile will improve your goalie skating experience. SkateWorks recommends that all hockey skate blades be profiled. The skater will notice having better balance and control of their skates. Skate sharpening is included in the process.
SkateWorks’ Icon goalie profiling system has these benefits:
1. The skater's center of gravity is aligned with the boot
Skate holders are not placed on each boot uniformly. Consequently, the center of gravity of the skate is shifted based on the position of the blade. Having your center of gravity correctly balanced is a key ingredient for proper skating form. Profiling addresses this and makes sure the center of gravity is aligned properly!
2. Blade heights are balanced
Skate blade heights can be different from skate to skate. Balancing the heights of the blades ensures that the skate blade sits neutrally to the ice. Common discrepancies in blade heights come in two forms: blade heights pitched backward and inconsistent blade heights from skate to skate. Being pitched backward or having inconsistent blade heights forces the skater’s body to try to compensate for the anomaly, adding stress and fatigue. In addition, if the skates are pitched backward this will limit the range of ankle motion. With properly balanced blades, the skater has less stress and fatigue and more control on the ice.
3. An appropriate radius or curvature is placed on the blade to maximize agility and control
The ICON profiles are designed to maximize agility and control based on weight.
Standard profile to weight radiuses are as follows:
22’ radius < 120 lbs.
24’ radius 120 lbs. to 140 lbs.
26’ radius 141lbs. to 160 lbs.
28’ radius 161 lbs. to 200 lbs.
30’ radius 201 lbs. to 240 lbs.
32’ radius >240 lbs.
Dual profiles fare designed for advanced skaters. Weight radiuses are as follows:
22’/ 24’ radius 120 lbs. to 140 lbs.
24’/ 26’ radius 141lbs. to 160 lbs.
24’/ 28’ radius 161 lbs. to 200 lbs.
Goalie Win Profile
The Goalie Win Profile are available using the ProSharp AS 2001 AllPro -SC Machine and is available at SkateWorks.
Goalie Sam Profile
The Goalie Sam Profile are available using the ProSharp AS 2001 AllPro -SC Machine and is available at SkateWorks.
The proper radius gives the goalie the optimal amount of blade on the ice, improving agility, balance and control.
